Sonoma home winemakers host talk on barrel alternatives

Murrell’s current research at StaVin is focused on application of barrel alternatives in the beverage industry.|

Sonoma Home Winemakers is hosting a discussion of oak barrel alternatives at the group’s monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday April 11 at Vintage House. The speakers is Jeff Murrell of Stavin.

Murrell is the director of research for Stavin. He has a doctorate in bio-organic chemistry from UC Davis for his work on elucidating microbial biosynthesis pathways for chemotherapy drugs. After a brief stint teaching biochemistry at Sonoma State University, he entered the wine industry as the lab manager and enologist for V. Sattui winery.

Murrell’s current research at Stavin is focused on application of barrel alternatives in the beverage industry.

Guests are welcome at no cost. New members can join for $40 per year.
